Season 7 of the TTS league is half way through the preliminary rounds. At this point people can make changes to their rosters, so this is a sensible point to look at what rosters are doing well, as after this point the data can get muddied by changes. After three games, 35 rosters remain undefeated (3-0). Here is a breakdown of their rosters compared to the league average, showing the variance – how much it varies from the league stats:

Affiliations
Affiliations | 3-0 | All | Variance |
1 | 77% | 70% | 7% |
2 | 23% | 28% | -5% |
3 | 0% | 2% | -2% |
A slight skew towards single affiliations compared to the bulk of the league. Of the 8 duals, 5 of the dual affiliated with Black Order. One list unaffiliated as a second affiliation, so you might also count that as dual affiliated. The remain two duals were X-men/X-force and Avengers/Criminal Syndicate.
Affiliation | 3-0 | All | Variance |
Criminal Syndicate | 23% | 11% | 12% |
Brotherhood of Mutants | 20% | 14% | 6% |
Web Warriors | 17% | 10% | 8% |
Avengers | 14% | 15% | 0% |
Black Order | 14% | 8% | 7% |
Cabal | 9% | 4% | 5% |
Convocation | 6% | 8% | -3% |
Uncanny X-men | 6% | 6% | -1% |
Wakanda | 6% | 4% | 2% |
Guardians of the Galaxy | 3% | 11% | -8% |
X-Force | 3% | 7% | -4% |
Unaffiliated | 3% | 1% | 1% |
Midnight Sons | 0% | 9% | -9% |
Spider Foes | 0% | 7% | -7% |
A-Force | 0% | 5% | -5% |
Dark Dimension | 0% | 4% | -4% |
Asgard | 0% | 4% | -4% |
Defenders | 0% | 2% | -2% |
Inhumans | 0% | 2% | -2% |
Criminals are the most over-represented compared to the league, with Brotherhood just behind. I think the top 5 here represent the current state of the meta pretty well, though you can argue about their relative positions. A surprise for me was no Midnight Sons players going 3-0. They had good representation, fantastic in affiliation models and cards.
It’s probably worth pointing out at this point that there are load of good players with good, competitive rosters that aren’t included here. I’m certain that if a dice roll went a different way in a game or two, we could have had plenty of 3-0 Midnight Sons rosters. These stats aren’t definitive, they are just the numbers we have. This point applies the whole of this article.

So it seems Voodoo isn’t required for a competitive roster, per se, but sort of in the same way that Okoye wasn’t required pre-nerfs, but she was in a lot of rosters that were winning. He is clearly at the top of the curve due to his good power generation, solid defences and massive impact on scenario. Those players not taking him often have good reasons for not including him in their roster, but clearly he is on everyone’s mind during roster construction.
With this kind of analysis, you are always significant variance from the field as you are cutting down to, but Toad is the other character that stands out as ending up in winning rosters more than the field. To an extent this is due to Brotherhood representing 20% of the rosters, but that still leaves 37% taking him as an unaffiliated 2. I think you can certainly make a cogent argument for him being the king of the 2 threats right now.
Of the characters under-represented compared to the field, Rocket Racoon, Ghost Rider, Winter Soldier and Groot lead the pack, probably reflecting only one Guardians player from a popular base level of play making it to 3-0.

The clock is ticking: surely it’s only a matter of time before indomitable gets restricted. The fact this isn’t closer 100% is a slight surprise to me, but maybe the roster changes will bump that up a little.
Sacrifice and Advanced R&D both are represented higher in the 3-0 rosters than the field. Sacrifice is often overlooked. As well as being great tech vs attrition teams, diverting attacks to spread damage and hopefully stop them denying activations through dazing, you can do neat stuff like stealing priority by putting attacks on to unactivated characters near dazing/KO towards the end of a round. Advanced R&D is more strongly linked to one specific character in my mind – Black Cat. Having her extract steal superpower online reliably round 2 is a big thing in the meta right now. Only one roster (a Convocation roster) brought Advanced R&D that wasn’t playing Black Cat, and there were only two rosters (Brotherhood, who can power her up, and Criminals) bringing Black Cat without R&D.
It’s interesting to see Bitter Rivals and Blind Obsession as two of the three greatest falls compared to the rest of the league – that wide attrition style those cards tend to appear in hasn’t had the results I would have expected. Yet. It’s still very viable and I’m sure someone else will end up doing well with it, beyond Morgan Reid.
